Yarn count is one of the most fundamental specifications in textile sourcing, yet it is frequently misunderstood by newer buyers. In simple terms, count expresses the fineness of a yarn: in the English cotton system, a higher number means a finer, thinner yarn. A 40s cotton yarn is finer than a 20s.
Choosing the right count is a balance between the fabric you want and the cost you can carry. Finer counts (50s, 60s, 80s) produce lighter, softer, premium fabrics but cost more and demand higher-quality fibre. Coarser counts (10s, 16s, 20s) are stronger and more economical, suited to denim, towels, and heavier wovens.
The key for procurement teams is consistency. A count that drifts from lot to lot creates fabric defects and rejections downstream. When you source from a partner who controls count tightly, you protect your entire production chain. At AA Enterprises, count consistency is the parameter we guard most closely.
