CVC vs PC Yarn: What Is the Difference?

18 June 2026 by

CVC and PC yarns are both cotton-polyester blends, and buyers often confuse them. The key difference is which fibre dominates.

PC (poly-cotton)

In PC yarn, polyester is usually the larger share — common ratios are 65/35 or 70/30 (polyester/cotton). The result is durable, easy-care and economical, ideal for shirting, uniforms and many knits.

CVC (chief value cotton)

CVC means “chief value cotton” — cotton is the dominant fibre, with ratios like 60/40 or 80/20 (cotton/polyester). CVC keeps more of cotton’s soft hand-feel and breathability while adding polyester’s strength and shrink-resistance. It is favoured for premium tees and fleece.

How to choose

  • Want lower cost and maximum easy-care → PC
  • Want a cotton-led hand-feel with added durability → CVC

What to specify

State the exact ratio (for example CVC 60/40 or PC 65/35), the count and end use, so dyeing and fabric behaviour stay predictable.
