A blend ratio is the proportion by weight of each fibre in the yarn. PC 65/35 means 65 per cent polyester and 35 per cent cotton, always polyester first by convention. CVC means cotton-rich, usually 60/40 cotton to polyester.
Ratios are by weight, not by volume or fibre count. Because polyester and cotton have different densities, a 50/50 blend by weight does not look like a 50/50 mix under a microscope.
Common blends and what they are for

Blending affects more than cost
Polyester raises strength, abrasion resistance and wrinkle recovery, and lowers cost. Cotton raises absorbency, breathability and dye depth. Viscose adds drape and softness but weakens the yarn when wet.
The practical consequence is dyeing. A PC blend needs two dye classes — disperse for the polyester and reactive or vat for the cotton — which means a two-bath process and higher cost. CVC blends can show a heathered look if the two fibres take dye differently.
Worked example
You need 1,000 kg of PC 65/35. That is 650 kg of polyester fibre and 350 kg of cotton. If polyester costs Rs 95 per kg and cotton Rs 190, the raw fibre cost is (650 × 95) + (350 × 190) = Rs 61,750 + Rs 66,500 = Rs 128,250, or Rs 128 per kg before spinning, waste and margin.

What does PC 65/35 mean?
65 per cent polyester and 35 per cent cotton by weight. Polyester is always stated first in PC blends.
What is CVC yarn?
CVC stands for chief value cotton — a cotton-rich polyester-cotton blend, most commonly 60/40 cotton to polyester.
What is the difference between PC and PV?
PC is polyester-cotton. PV is polyester-viscose. PV drapes better and is used for suiting; PC is stronger and used for shirting and uniforms.
Are blend ratios by weight or volume?
By weight. A 65/35 blend contains 650 grams of the first fibre per kilogram of yarn.
