Cotton Yarn Price

Cotton yarn price — what drives it, and how to get a firm quote

Cotton yarn price moves with the cotton market, count, spin type and quality, so a number quoted last month is not a quote today. India produced 290.91 lakh bales in 2025-26 against 328 lakh consumed, and 62% of the crop is rain-fed. Here is what drives the price, and how to get a firm quote against your spec.

What drives cotton yarn price

Several levers set the rate. Understanding them helps you read a quote and buy smart.

Cotton (raw material) cost

The biggest driver — it moves with the crop and market.

Count

Finer counts (higher Ne) cost more per kg.

Combed vs carded

Combed costs more (lower realisation, higher quality).

Blend & fibre

Polyester, viscose and specialty fibres shift the rate.

Quality & consistency

Documented strength and evenness carry a premium that saves on rejects.

Quantity

Programme volumes can improve pricing.

  • Fibre / blend and ratio
  • Combed, carded or open-end
  • Single or double (TFO)

Frequently asked questions

It varies with the cotton market, count, spin and quality, so it changes over time. Share your spec and quantity and we will send a firm, current quote.

Why do you not list fixed cotton yarn prices?

Cotton yarn prices move with the raw-cotton market; a fixed list would quickly be out of date. We quote firm pricing to your exact spec instead.

What information do you need to quote?

Count, fibre/blend, spin, fold, grey or dyed shade, quantity and delivery location.

What actually moves cotton yarn prices

Four published figures explain most of the movement in a quotation.

India consumes more cotton than it grows. Production was 290.91 lakh bales (4.95 million tonnes) in 2025-26 provisional, while domestic consumption reached 328 lakh bales (5.58 million tonnes) — a structural gap of roughly 37 lakh bales. A tight domestic balance is the floor under yarn prices (PIB, July 2026).

The support price sets the base. For 2026-27 the MSP was fixed at ₹8,267 per quintal for medium-staple seed cotton and ₹8,667 per quintal for long staple, an increase of ₹557 on the previous season (CACP, via PIB, July 2026).

The monsoon is a price input. About 62% of India’s cotton is grown rain-fed, the remaining 38% under irrigation. A weak monsoon shows up in yarn quotations within weeks, not seasons (PIB, July 2026).

Units matter when comparing quotes. One bale is 170 kg. Candy, bale and kg quotes are not interchangeable, and a quote without its unit is not a quote.

Every figure above carries the year it refers to and the body that published it. None of them are our own estimates.
