Fabric is bought at different stages of processing. Choosing the right one depends on whether you dye and finish in-house or need fabric ready for cut-and-sew.
Greige (loom-state) fabric
Greige is unprocessed fabric straight off the loom or knitting machine — no scouring, dyeing or finishing. It suits converters and processors who run their own dye house and want maximum control over the finish.
RFD (ready-for-dyeing) fabric
RFD fabric has been prepared and scoured so it takes dye cleanly and evenly. It is a good middle option for garmenters and dye houses that want consistent, predictable dye uptake without preparing greige themselves.
Dyed and finished fabric
This is fabric dyed, printed and finished to your shade, hand-feel and finish — ready for cutting and sewing. It is the simplest option if you do not process fabric in-house.
How to choose
- Process in-house with full control → greige
- Dye in-house but want clean preparation → RFD
- Need fabric ready to cut → dyed and finished
What to specify
Share construction, GSM, width and finish (and shade if dyed). Consistency across batches keeps your downstream processing predictable.
