Polyester-Viscose (PV) Yarn: Uses, Blends and When to Choose It

18 June 2026 by

Polyester-viscose (PV) yarn pairs the strength and easy-care of polyester with the soft drape of viscose. It is a workhorse blend for suiting and bottom-weight fabrics.

What is PV yarn?

PV yarn blends polyester staple fibre with viscose (rayon). Polyester adds durability, wrinkle-resistance and dimensional stability; viscose adds softness, sheen and a fluid drape.

Common PV blend ratios

  • 65/35 (polyester/viscose) — the most common all-rounder for suiting.
  • 80/20 — more polyester for added strength and crease-resistance.

Where PV yarn is used

  • Suiting and formal wear
  • Trousers and bottom-weights
  • Uniforms and workwear
  • Blended fashion fabric

PV vs poly-cotton

Poly-cotton (PC) leans towards a cotton hand-feel and breathability for shirting and knits, while PV leans towards drape and a smoother finish for suiting. The right choice depends on the look and feel you want.
