Choosing Yarn for Activewear and Performance Fabric

26 July 2026 by

Activewear asks a lot of a fabric: it must breathe, move, wick moisture and survive repeated washing. The yarn choice is where that starts.

What activewear yarn needs

  • Moisture management — polyester wicks and dries fast; cotton and bamboo feel soft against skin.
  • Stretch-friendliness — even yarn that knits cleanly with elastane in circular or seamless machines.
  • Durability — strength to handle stretch and frequent laundering.

Common choices

Blends dominate: poly-cotton and polyester-rich blends for wicking and durability, CVC and bamboo where softness matters. Fine combed cotton suits cotton-first athleisure.

Fabric side

Activewear is usually knit — single jersey, interlock or pique with elastane. See fabric types and size the order with our requirement calculator.
