Before a warp can be woven, it has to survive thousands of insertions under tension. That is what warp preparation — especially sizing — is for.
Why warp yarn is sized
Sizing coats the warp with a protective film so it can withstand the abrasion and tension of weaving without breaking. It is one reason warp yarn needs more strength and twist than weft.
The preparation chain
Warping gathers many ends onto a beam; sizing applies the coating and dries it; drawing-in threads each end through the reed and healds. Get this right and the loom runs clean.
What it means for yarn choice
Strong, even warp yarn sizes and weaves better with fewer breaks. Specify strength (CSP) and evenness for warp, and plan the reed with our reed count and cover factor tools. See weaving yarn.
We supply warp and weft yarn built to weave clean.
