When you order yarn, it arrives on cones packed in cartons. Knowing the basics helps you plan storage, handling and logistics.
Cones
Yarn is wound onto cones for smooth feeding on knitting and weaving machines. Cone net weight varies by yarn and winding, commonly around 1.5–2.1 kg per cone — a frequent figure is about 1.89 kg.
Cartons
Cones are packed into cartons for transport, typically a set number of cones per carton (often around 20–24, depending on cone size). Cartons keep yarn clean and stackable.
Estimating your order
To turn a kilogram requirement into whole cones and cartons for planning, use our Cone & Carton Estimator — enter your cone weight and cones per carton to get counts. Size the total quantity first with the Yarn Requirement Calculator.
Handling and storage
Keep cartons closed, off the floor and away from damp and direct light to protect strength and shade — see our guide on storing and handling yarn.
We pack and dispatch yarn mill-direct, ready for your floor.
