Buy yarn internationally and you will meet different numbering systems. Here is who uses what, and how to move between them.
The systems by region
- Ne (English cotton): standard for cotton in India, the US and much of the world.
- Nm (metric): common in Europe for blended, woollen and worsted yarns.
- Tex / Decitex: the SI-based direct system, used globally in technical specs.
- Denier: mainly for filament and synthetic yarns.
Converting between them
Everything routes through Tex, so once you know one you can reach the others. Our count converter and conversion chart do it instantly; the full explainer is in our count guide.
Why it matters for trade
Quoting in the buyer’s system avoids confusion and mistakes. We are happy to quote and label in Ne, Nm or Tex for export orders — see global supply.
